Barcelona has consolidated its position as one of the top European cities to host congresses and conventions. Over 2,130 events of this nature were hosted in 2017, 8% more than in 2016, with the participation of over 600,000 delegates.
Owing to this increase in the number of events, it is estimated that the touristic activity of congresses in Barcelona brings in over 1,500 million Euros per annum to the city.
A leader in international congresses
Barcelona also claimed first place in the global ranking for international congresses in 2017, and the performance barometer of the International Congress and Convention Association (ICCA) revealed that the city had overtaken Paris and Vienna.
According to Fira de Barcelona, the city rose by two ranks last year compared to 2016, thus consolidating itself as one of the foremost destinations for organizers of events of this nature. Finishing behind Barcelona on the podium were other cities such as Berlin, London and Singapore.
Barcelona, a city for events
The Barcelona brand is more international than ever and, beyond congresses, it is undoubtedly a city of reference at the global level, among others, owing to its architecture, culture and cuisine.
Architecture is confirmed as one of the great attractions for delegates visiting Barcelona, as travelers may, for instance, choose to follow the many photographic routes to discover the most emblematic spots in the city.
With regard to cuisine, Barcelona has a wealth of culinary delights on offer. Indeed, cuisine is ever-present in events such as congresses, not to mention company meetings or even team building meals. In such meetings it is ideal to have a private space in the restaurant in order to enjoy maximum freedom.
El Principal, a restaurant in Barcelona, features a number of different private spaces in which to organize meetings, product presentations, press conferences or corporate events of any nature, and it can host up to 500 guests in cocktail party format. As you can see, there is no shortage of reasons for you to come!
